Background

I’m a visual storyteller, inspired by life by the sea and my love of people-watching. Over the years, I’ve explored many ways of capturing the world and the characters who inhabit it.

My work has shifted and grown alongside my life. What began as only abstract landscapes gradually became more figurative, as people and their stories moved to my practice.

Creativity has always been part of me. I studied at Chelsea School of Art in the 1990s and, although I didn’t complete my degree at the time, it opened the door to a varied and rewarding path.

Alongside raising four children, I worked in interior design before running a children’s shop. For 20 years, the shop brought together fair-trade toys, organic cotton clothing, and beautiful picture books, at a time when such choices were still far from mainstream. Surrounded by this blend of creativity and care, my interest in illustration and storytelling really began to take root.

In time, I returned to university and completed a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts, graduating with first-class honours. It was a rich and inspiring experience, one I will always treasure.

Practice

Being a freelance artist is, quite honestly, a dream come true. Painting and drawing are how I express myself, they’re my voice.

For a long time, I thought of dyslexia as a hurdle, but now I see it as my superpower. It shapes the way I see the world and fuels my creativity.

I also enjoy working to a brief, balancing ideas with practicalities and budgets, something that harks back to my years in interior design.

I mostly work with acrylic and mixed media, and my work has recently been exhibited at Allen Hall Gallery, Glandford.

Art Retreat

Bloomsbury House is a project my husband, James, and I brought to life while I was studying at university. It’s our creative, coastal retreat in the heart of Sheringham, just a short walk from the Blue Flag beach and promenade.

The house is full of character, with cosy spaces, original artwork, and plenty of charm. We wanted it to be both relaxed and inspiring, a base for exploring North Norfolk or simply unwinding by the sea.

Guests are welcome to stay for a peaceful escape, and there are also opportunities to join tailor-made art workshops. Whether you’re brand new to art or looking to try fresh techniques, there’s something here for you.

Blanefield Art Alchemy

In my home and studio in Beeston Regis, I run small, relaxed art workshops that are playful, hands-on, and open to everyone. No experience is needed, it’s all about experimenting, loosening up, and finding the joy in making.

With endless tea, coffee, and cake to keep us going, we explore mark-making, collage, colour, and composition, inspired by different artists and unusual techniques. Groups are kept to just six people, so there’s plenty of room for individual attention and encouragement.

I love seeing people surprise themselves, lose track of time, and leave with fresh ideas buzzing in their heads. If you’d like to shake up your creativity, try something new, or simply spend a few hours making art for the fun of it, you’ll be very welcome.

Come and play, be bold, and see what you can create.
