Face

I've never been interested in painting a perfect likeness.

What fascinates me is the moment when someone begins to appear.

A tilt of the head.

A thoughtful pause.

A laugh that's almost escaped.

Working quickly with pastel keeps me in the moment, allowing instinct to take over and the drawing to find its own way.

Every face has a story.

I'm simply hoping to catch the page where it quietly opens.
